    [event:16-17 June] the Mid-Term Evaluation on FP7= Conference held in Budapest
    Content

     [event:16-17 June / Budapest/ Hungary]

    Europa Media, a leading training organisation in Europe on FP7 project development and management, is pleased to announce that the FP7 Mid-term Evaluation Event will be organised in Budapest on 16-17 June 2011. EU funding experts and senior project managers of Europa Media, together with former EC Desk Officers, FP7 Experts and successful Project Managers, will be presenting and sharing their tips during the two day conference

    To involve the participants to the discussions, the event is organised in various sessions. The first one in the first day will focus on introducing the results of the interim evaluation in an interactive way. In addition, round-table discussion sessions will be held with a panel of experts giving their advice and experiences, taking questions from the audience as well as posing questions to them. Smaller groups will have the opportunity to discuss and focus on issues of great interest. The organisers will also provide networking opportunities to the interested participants.

    'Optical solutions to biomedical problems', Marseille, France

    [ 2011-04-11 ]

    An event entitled 'Optical solutions to biomedical problems' will take place from 20 to 21 June 2011 in Marseille, France.

    Combating diseases depends to a high degree on tools for early diagnosis and prognosis. In cancer, for example, the earlier a tumour is detected, the better are the chances for the patient's recovery. By adding, subtracting, mixing and manipulating photons to explore molecular resonances inherent to molecules, non-linear optics (NLO) imaging technologies are challenging but promising for biomedical applications.

    This symposium will aim to sum up the work already accomplished and to highlight its potential within the frame of an emerging personalised medicine.

    The event is organised by the 'CARS (Coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy) explorer' network, which is funded under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). It is composed of seven partner organisations from four European member states. The CARS consortium combines physicists, biologists and clinicians in the fields of medical imaging, NLO technology, pre-clinical animal models and skin cancer.

    The 'Scientix European conference' will be held from 6 to 8 May 2011 in Brussels, Belgium.

    The event will be an opportunity to learn more about different science education projects in Europe, get to know the people behind the projects, and share expertise, knowledge and best practices. The conference is intended to give a thorough view of the potential and possibilities of the Scientix.eu portal and community.

    Scientix collects teaching materials and research reports from European science education projects financed by the European Union under the Sixth and Seventh Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development, the Lifelong Learning Programme and various national initiatives.

    The conference is not only intended for science, math and technology teachers, but other stakeholders, such as researchers, policymakers and science communicators.

    [Event date: 2011-4-18-19]'Regenerative medicine in Europe' project closing conference, Bilbao, Spain

    'Regenerative medicine in Europe' project closing conference, Bilbao, Spain

    The closing conference of the 'Regenerative medicine in Europe' (Remedie) project will take place from 18 to 19 April 2011 in Bilbao, Spain.

    The conference will announce the principal findings of the Remedie project. The project has explored developments in the political, socio-economic, legal and bioethical domains in the field of regenerative medicine (RM), both in Europe and at the global level.

    Regenerative medicine involves the application of novel biomaterials - specifically cells (including stem cells), genes (via gene therapy) and biodegradable scaffolding materials, to achieve a regenerative effect, i.e. technologies aimed at stimulating or augmenting the human body's inherent capacity for self-repair.

    Findings will be presented through an integrated series of presentations that cover these domains and their implications for clinical translation, and for regulatory policy. The key issues covered include:
    - geographical and technological stratification of the European RM sector;
    - the distinctive innovation and governance models being developed in India, China and Japan;
    - the specific challenges associated with developing large-scale trials and pressures towards harmonisation across Europe;
    - the emergence of indirect forms of commercialisation and the regulatory challenges that need to be addressed.
    - the emergence of distinctive and competing bioethical networks that frame RM in very different ways.

    Workshop on 'How can national delivery of climate finance be secured effectively?', London, UK

    [ 2011-03-24 ]

    A workshop entitled 'How can national delivery of climate finance be secured effectively?' will take place on 31 March 2011 in London, UK.

    Financing the promises made at international conferences like Kyoto, Cancun and Copenhagen remains a work in progress. Although an emerging structure is being framed at the global level, information about what is happening at country level has been lacking. It is the national level which experts point to as being crucial for such activities as monitoring, reporting and verification.

    The event will provide the launch of the detailed results of the EU-funded 'European development co-operation to 2020' (EDC 2020) project. Two case studies on climate finance and development cooperation in Indonesia and Bangladesh will be a focal point of the workshop. Three questions will also be covered:
    - 'how the interface between development cooperation and climate change is unfolding';
    - 'what types of institutional structures are emerging to handle climate finance at national level';
    - 'what the main challenges are for effective delivery from donor and host country perspectives'.

    Funded under the Seventh Framework Programme, the EDC 2020 project has sought to improve European policymaker and stakeholder understanding of emerging challenges facing EU development policy and initiatives outside the EU.

    'Rural development and globalisation in Europe', Brussels, Belgium

    [ 2011-03-22 ]

    A seminar on 'Rural development and globalisation in Europe' will be held on 31 March 2011 in Brussels, Belgium.

    The event will present and discuss emerging findings, policy recommendations and good practice examples from the EU-funded 'Developing Europe's rural regions in the era of globalisation' (Derreg) project. Presentations and discussion will focus on:
    - an overview of globalisation challenges and opportunities for rural Europe;
    - rural small to medium-sized enterprises and transnational business networks;
    - international migration to rural regions;
    - sustainable development in international context;
    - rural learning regions.

    The Derreg project looks at the key challenges facing rural regions in Europe, bringing significant social, economic, cultural and political changes. The absence of an overarching integrative analysis has been an obstacle limiting effective regional development strategies to cope with these challenges. To combat this, the project aims to produce an interpretative model that will enable researchers and regional development actors to better anticipate and respond to the key challenges posed by globalization for rural regions.
